“Education is the path to progress”

Message From The Director General

Dear Pan American friends :

At the beginning of the biennium 2010-2012, I express my gratitude to the Tables and officers of the hemisphere, for conferring on me the honorable task of leading the destinies of our prestigious organization, founded 95 years ago in Texas.

Our purpose is, First: To work from within the movement, strengthening the existing human resources; being where they need us most, solving doubts, spreading enthusiasm and action, but above all, supporting the members, who are the cornerstone of the movement, respectful and respectable ladies who give their time, their ideas, their work for the others. To all and each one of them, I send my consideration and respect.

Secondly, we will work towards the outside, showing what we are and the magnitude of our network of volunteers, in how many countries we are present, how much and how we generate the resources for scholarships and how we create libraries. If we do not show our achievements to the American community, these will be minimized and they will not know us. From these lines, I send a cordial invitation to all my fellow members to spread our actions in the 19 countries where 223 Pan American Round Tables exist. We are more than 7,000 women united by the same ideals!!!!

Sisters, the contribution of each one of you is necessary because an institution increases when there is a connecting link, communication, ideas, objectives, clear principles and fair legal frameworks. We have all of that.

We are proud to belong to the Alliance of Pan American Round Tables (APART) and during this term we will strengthen Florence Terry Griswold´s and our predecessors´work.

The 21 st Century brings new challenges, inequalities everywhere, violence in schools and in society. The destruction of the environment, disrespect for everything and to everyone, this and more, are attitudes that circulate with impunity. Pan Americans are in the middle of this chaotic society, helping to achieve an equitable society, using education as a leveling element that produces social, cultural and economic changes.

Friends, let us participate with our work and comply with the mandate that in the past was denied to us, the present offers us and the future will demand of us. Let us all work together to make our motto a reality:

“One for All and All for One”,
“Una Para Todas y Todas Para Una”

All my love,
Ana María Acuña de Macedo
Director General 2010-2012

With a desire to serve
